Its that time again...April Review!

~ Keeping track of every penny we spend. Still going strong!
~Follow our budget to the T! Yes and No....We had a few things that came up that we were not anticipating but all in all not too bad.
~Eat out less. Well considering we had McDonalds for dinner.....Whats that tell you?!
~Freeze meals to warm up on days that I would normally order out. I'm getting better at this. Its been a crazy month. Between trying to finish up school for the year and softball, we are very busy. So when I have froze meals it has been a huge burden lifted for that day.

~Find a church to attend and become a part of ASAP. DONE!
~Memorize scripture. Nope. One of these days I will answer yes to this question.
~Read my bible and have prayer time in the morning before the kids wake up. Some days but I want to be more consistent in this area.
~Start Polished Cornerstones and Plants Grown Up character training with the kids. I am looking at it right now sitting very lonely on the bookshelf. (Same as last

Being Mrs. Brian Hupp aka Babe
~I want, want, WANT to get up with Brian in the morning and make him breakfast before he goes to work. It has become a habit to get up every morning. He goes in an hour early and that is just a bit too early for me to stay up so I go back to bed!
~Plan a date night (at home because that is just where we are in our life right now and that's ok. At home can be pretty creative...he he) at least once a month. We've had to be creative but its been a fun month! ;)
~Pray with Brian every night before bed. A few nights.

Being Momma
~Be soft. Still working on it. I want the kids to remember my smile more than they remember my agitated face. I remind myself of this everyday!
~Play more. Yes! I have been throwing the ball with Alyssa, we had a school day at the Wilderness Center and we have had a few dancing and singing sessions.
~Be prepared for school. Yep!
~Add more field trips to help school come alive for the kids. Yes, a few. Next month is going to be full of field trips. I'm not sure who's more excited me or the kids.

Self Sufficiency
~Have a big garden and plant something new. I'm hoping to get the garden in this weekend. YAY!
~Bake bread from scratch. Not really this month. I did make a few loaves of apple bread though.
~Get meat chickens. We still only have 2. Brian wants to wait till we butcher these 2 first to make sure everyone is going to actually be able to eat them.

On to other news.....Alyssa had a softball tournament this past weekend. Her team came runner up! The girls played so well. Alyssa is still learning since this is her first year. I'm so proud of her for getting out there knowing that she is still learning. That's hard to do!

She got a little discouraged on their last game in the tournament. She missed a few balls that she knew she should have caught. We game her a little pep talk and reminded her that she is here to have fun. She loosed up after that. I love my girl!

She got her very first trophy!

Carters very first snake of the season. Fun times!

Lilacs! My absolute favorite. I was so excited this afternoon when I saw them blooming! sweet boy. The poor kid is going through so much right now. His MRI has been moved up to May 11th because the doctors found a "mass" in his right leg where he has been having problems. It sure doesn't seem to be stopping him though does it!

Last night, we were watching a movie and it has a war scene in it. They showed a very real looking dead man. The movie was Anne of Green Gables so we are not talking Black Hawk Down or anything!  Anyway, Carter told me he wasn't sure he was going to be able to sleep because it kind of freaked him out. We told him it was only on there for a second, he should be fine. They showed it again and he looked at me and said he was going to be sick. I asked if he was going to be ok and his eyes rolled back into his head and his face went pale! I jumped up and turned the movie off and laid him down. He looked up and me and said....."this is so stupid, mom!"

I couldn't believe it! He fainted AGAIN! That's 2 times this month. It's starting to make him angry. Still scares the dickens out of me! Brian laughed.

All day Carter has been saying that he cant believe it happened again. He even wanted me to test it to see if it would happen again. I think not!

Boys...what am I going to do with him!

I is for Incredible

My dad and little brother went turkey hunting the other day. It was the first day of the season and the first time Jason had gone turkey hunting and he left with a 20 lb turkey!

As you will see in the video he really is not all the "little" anymore but I don't think you can help but smile when you see his adorable, little boy grin. I love you Jason. You are pretty incredible! Oh yeah, so is the turkey hunt.

Wanna see his grin? Check it out HERE.

A day at the pond

We are talking about water in school. We have had a lot of discussions from why our bodies need water to what the bible says about water. We have done science experiments including water and are in the process of making a diagram of the water cycle. So next in order would include a field trip to what else but WATER

First we did our nature study complete with drawings of the pond, lily pads and some protective geese.

When we walked down by the pond we were greeted by some geese. It was a good thing Carter carries his gun with him wherever he goes lately. Not to worry his gun is only a stick but it definitely came in handy.

Look how proud this momma looks.
These geese had eggs and babies to protect. I must admit I have never been hissed at by geese!
It was really quiet amazing watching them protect their young. Mr. Goose was making sure that nothing came to close. When he was threatening some other geese I tried to get in close for a picture. he comes!

It was a beautiful day. Perfect actually. We talked about animals that live in and need water to survive, Alyssa worked on a report about man made ponds and we talked about water pollution.

We are going to have to have more school days by the water.

7 Quick Takes Friday

7 quick takes sm1 Your 7 Quick Takes Toolkit!

My little boy is growing up. Look who has started helping his dad mow.

He is actually pretty fast and enjoys doing it because it makes him feel like he is becoming a man.
He may be growing up but he is never to old to smile for my pictures. Daddy tells me I have him trained because he will stop and smile if I have my camera no matter what he is doing.

We have kittens! Four of them to be exact. There is a bit of a battle at the moment of how long this will be their home. Daddy is a sucker for his kids so I'm assuming we will have four more cats at our feet soon.

Busy does not even come close to our home at the moment.

Carter had an x-ray of his leg a few weeks ago because he is having reocurring pain. The doctor wants him to have an MRI to get a better idea of what is going on but our insurance will not pay for an MRI until he has 10 sessions of physical therapy. Talk about frustrating! So we are doing 3 days a week of PT for him,
1 day a week for Taylor and Alyssa has softball 4 times a week.
Not to mention......mixing in school, laundry (with NO dryer!), cleaning...and all that other fun stuff. :)

Busy, busy, busy.....but that's ok this will pass and then I will be complaining that I am bored.
Yeah right, my house is never boring.

School has been a hit this week. I love that! I started doing spelling tests with the kids. Its kind of funny because at this point they absolutely love tests! So I have not even had to tell them to study their words because they are on it!

Spring is finally here to stay.
(I think. Lets not forget this is Ohio)

Everyone is loving this weather. I always know its nice out because the kids are never in the house.

Carter can usually be found in the dirt first thing in the morning!

I am reading, How To Keep The "Good" in Your Boy by Dannah Gresh. This is an awesome book!
I would highly recommend anyone that has a son to get your hands on this book!

It has wonderful insight and amazing examples of how to apply things into our sons' lives that will make a lasting effect.

I have been making a complete menu plan for a few weeks now. My goal is to plan out every meal so that we don't eat out. Especially with our busy schedule lately.
My problem is I always lose the paper with my menus.

I looked around online for some ideas but most of them only had dinner plans.
So I just came up with my own.

I have it all laid out so there is no scrambling at 5 wondering what I am going to make for dinner.
Its also been nice because Alyssa will see whats for lunch and start it if I am busy. So far so good. Now I just need to get my hunky husband to have time to hang it up for me!

H is for Hilarious

So I kind of got behind on blogging through the alphabet. Don't judge. It happens. ;)

I am sitting here trying to think of words that begin with the letter H because I have exactly one hour and 28 minutes before I have to come up with an "I" word. Hmm.....

Husband. Hes great. I don't have much to say about him at the moment. Besides you just might be tired of hearing about him.

Hero. My grandma. I couldn't possible post all I would have to say about her in one hour and 27 minutes.

Help Meet. Yes that's a good one but I would have to pray before I opened that can of worms.

Hippo. What could you possible even say about a hippo?

Hunk. See back to my husband again.

Help. Between physical therapy (now Carter and Taylor) and softball I could use some help with my house work.

Honest. Honestly this shouldn't be this hard.

Hair. I hate my hair at the moment. Although it is completely vain I have an obsession with my hair. One day I like it blond and then my hubby says I like it natural so I go natural and then I want it blond again. When I was little my hair was very blonde and as I got older it got darker. So brunette is now natural but blond feels natural! Opinions??

Hamper. Mine is beyond full! See "help" above...

Habits. I have a few habits that I never even knew I had. Like standing on the side of my foot. Especially when I am nervous. Brian says its cute. Isn't he sweet? I also have a habit of making sure I don't offend people. I'm always so scared to hurt someones feelings. So if I think that I have hurt their feelings I make sure that I didn't actually hurt their feelings like a hundred times. Although today I am wishing some other people had that habit so I could tell them that they should be careful with their words.

Heartache. It kills me to see my kids being left out. Home schooled kids really do make good friends if they would just get to know them! Why does growing up have to be so difficult?

Helmet. I think it would be a good idea for my son to wear a helmet 20 hours out of a day. Really.

History. I am yet to find a great history that I love for the kids.

Homestead. I just love the sound of the word. I love my little homestead!

Hoop.  I am so excited that this weekend we are making a hoop house for our new chickens. It should be an adventure because although my husband is really great at a lot of things, building is not his strong point. Pictures to follow....

and last but not least....Hilarious...
I shouldn't but I cant help but repeat this story.

Sometimes Taylor gets her words mixed up. Today at physical therapy her therapist (that she has known since she was just a wee thing) was moving her over to her belly. Tay yelled out like something hurt her. We asked her what was wrong and she told her therapist that she now has to be careful because her pupils are growing bigger and they are very tender!

It was beyond hilarious! It may be one of those things that you just had to be there to get the full effect of hilariousness but I still can't help but giggle.

Softball Slugger

Alyssa has been really enjoying softball. She has wanted to play for a long time.

She gets out there and keeps up with the girls that have played for years.

I love her heart. She puts her heart into everything she does.
Tonight was pictures. We did the group picture and then we had some fun doing our own individual pictures.

Family, I agree with what you are thinking. When did she grow up!?

Male Bonding at its Best

One thing I adore about my husband is his love and patience for his children.

Brian had to change his brakes and when I went out to check on them, he had Carter doing most of it alone. He talked him through it and explained the "whys" and "whats" of brakes and cars.
I love this picture! Dirty face and all! Yes, he is sporting a blue mohawk.;)

I love my boys.

Ultimate Blog Party 2012

Who doesn't love a party!? I know I do! Too bad we couldn't all sit around eating goodies and chatting face to face but hey, this is better than nothing right!

Welcome to my blog! If you are a regular here then I am sure you know all this information about me but if you are not......My name is Miranda. I am a wife to pretty great guy, Brian and the mom to four amazing kids. We have always been a homeschooling family.

I blog about life really. Just my everyday life which includes raising a daughter with a disability, homeschooling, homesteading, chickens, being a helpmeet, making memories and taking lots of pictures.

I recently did an about me post. You can click on that HERE and you can also check out my "about" at the top of this page. I hope you stick around for awhile. ;)

Things have been so busy around here I have not had a chance to take recent pictures of the family. I didn't even get Easter pictures! Anyone that knows me would think I have lost my mind. Hehe....

You can check out more of our balloon pictures HERE if you want to see our crew!

Easter 2012

We had a wonderful Easter. We went out of town to visit my grandparents. This tradition has been going on since I was 10!

I was up at 5:30. We were out of the house at 8:30. First we went to my lovely grandmas church.
Then we headed outside to let balloons go. Quite a few of them didn't make it very far! ;)
On our way to grandmas we drive through the little town of Adamsville. This is the church that I grew up in. My grandpa was the pastor and I have so many special memories of this little white church.
I had wanted to get some family pictures in this field but that didn't work so well. It was way too windy! So I settled on just getting a few pictures of the field.
We eventually made our way to grandmas.

Good food and good times. I love my family!
Easter is a pretty special time. I have known the story of Jesus since I can remember but every year that passes the story of Easter never ceases to amaze me. Jesus died for me. Jesus rose for me. He was tortured for me. He saved me. Pretty amazing, huh?!

What makes Easter so much more important to me is the fact that I get to spend it with my favorite people!
