Homeschool Mother's Journal ~ Week One

In my life this week...
It was a busy week. School is in full swing. I have been working on our school "routine". We do not follow a rigid schedule but if I do not try to stick to a routine then I will never get everything done. Its more my nature to just roll with the punches and enjoy the day as it comes but the older I get the more I realize the importance of routine. Funny, I am the only one like this. All my kids (especially Alyssa) and husband would love a minute to minute schedule.

In our homeschool this week...
We are finishing our 8th chapter of Weaver. We are carrying over where we left last year. I can not express enough how much I love Weaver! It is such a perfect fit for our family.

It was a good week, with the exception of this day but that turned out fine in the end. :)

We started reading A Cry From Egypt by Hope Auer. I got this book to review as part of the TOS Crew. Wow! That is all I have to say but be looking out for my review soon. We couldn't put it down and ended up reading it in 2 days! Next week we are going on a bit of a rabbit trail about the plagues of Egypt.

Places we are going and people we are seeing...
We are headed to the library this weekend. I also have been spending some AWESOME time with my little sister and stepmom! My little sister is getting married and there is lots of planning and all that fun girly stuff!

My favorite thing this week was...
Being able to teach my kids. It seems so trivial and probably silly to some people but I love it. I love the memories we make, the love that is shared and being there to see all their accomplishments. I'm selfish like that. ;)

What's working/not working for us...
Everything is working so far...YAY! School has been running very smooth this year. We are only finishing up our second week so I know the bumps will come but that's ok. That's just part of the adventure!

Questions/Thoughts I have...
I have looked around for some advice on how to get it all done. Having a daughter with special needs gets complicated sometimes. Between meds, therapy and appointments sometimes I feel like I could scream. I think I finally have a plan though to help the day run better. We'll see.

Things I'm working on...
I am planning a bridal shower! I am having so much fun with all the little details. I can't wait to start buying things and putting it all together.

I'm reading...
Absolutely nothing, other than reading my bible and read alouds to the kids.  My day is so busy from morning til night. I usually crash in bed at 11 or so and am up by 5. There is no time right now for "extras".

In the kitchen...
We did something a bit different this month. We grocery shopped for ONE MONTH! I got some ideas online about saving money and I kind of ran with it. I am all about saving money. :) I am trying to not leave the house unless its for therapy or a doctors appointment. When we do leave, I try to get all my other errands done that day too. It kind of funny how much extra time I have when I am not running everyday. Who knew!?

I'm grateful for...
Our church. I have never in my life felt so comfortable at church. I truly believe with all of my heart that we are right where God wants us and that is an AWESOME feeling!

A photo...
I am so happy about the amount I have "put up" for winter! I love canning and every year I experiment with adding more. It can be so time consuming and exhausting but I love seeing this....

Wow! Your canning stash is amazing. I would love to learn how to can, but the work involved is always what gets me.
I love that picture of you and your husband. It's just a happy feeling kind of picture :)

Very nice canning!!  I am completely jealous as we put up nothing this year.  Our sad little garden was flooded out with an unprecedented flood this year.  Then, we never made it to our local picking places for berries.  So sad.  We're almost out of jam, then we'll have to buy some, from A STORE!  We haven't bought jam in 3 years, and we're total spoiled brats now!

Great first week!  Thanks for sharing!
