5 Fact Friday

So I came across this adorable blog and this neat blog hop awhile back. Every Friday, I read her 5 Facts about her or her life. Every Friday, I say "Oh how neat I want to join". Every Friday, I think I don't have time right now (Friday is errand running day) or I don't have any real great pictures to post. So every Friday I say "Next Friday".

Well here I am! Again. No pictures and really no time but what the hay!

Since I am new to this group of people I figured I would shout out a few things that most of you regulars (like 3 including my mom and aunt) already know. ;)

1. When I was a teenager I wanted to be an accountant. I was going to go to college at Ohio State because I didn't want to move too far away. Then I was going to move to New York. Not sure the logic on that.

My senior year of high school, I fell in love and got married. 4 kids later, I stay at home with my kids and I homeschool. Do you have any idea what my 17 year old self would be saying to that!? God is Good.

2. I love Dr. Pepper and cowboy boots, 80's music and cute clothes, Spring and Fall.

3. I adore taking pictures. Of everything. All the time. Especially of my kids. Just ask them. At times I will just say their name and they turn and smile. Its kind of funny. Especially if I don't even have my camera in my hand. HA!

4. I love God. Why did I wait till #4 to tell you that. Maybe I didn't want to scare you away.

Really though, I do and the older I get the more I understand how much I need Him to run my life. I'm pretty good at messing things up on my own.

5. I want to buy a farm. We are new to this kind of life style but my husband and I love it! We do not have a farm right now. The closest thing we have is a garden and chickens. We are getting closer though and it makes me super giddy.

I adore learning and teaching my kids to become self sufficient. In the last few years, I have learned how to can (peaches, jam, grape juice, apple sauce....all kids of yummy, fattening things), butcher a chicken and cook completely from scratch!

So there you have it! 5 facts about me. No pictures and no profound thoughts. Just me as I'm running late getting out the door. Welcome to my world.

No need for orange...

Dove hunting has been a big hit around here lately.

Brian went in the field behind the house and then Carter wanted to join him. It wasn't too long before the girls wanted to go too. This is the first year that Brian has hunted dove.

I think it is holding the guys over until they can get into the woods to deer hunt.

How would you like to find that guy climbing up your arm. Eek!

By now, if you know anything about dove hunting you are wondering why in the world we all have on orange. That would be because we are rookies. We did not know that you do not wear orange when hunting dove because they can see you!

Who knew! (Probably anyone reading this...haha)
Brian even bought me an adorable new sweatshirt.

That could explain why we didn't see anything. Its ok to laugh.

So we learned our lesson and went back out the next day. All of us. We are quite the sight. At least this time we were decked out in orange.

We still didn't see anything. We left this spot and loaded into the van. When we were driving back home there were about 20 of them sitting on the power line on the other side of the field. I thought it was funny. Brian not so much. Hehe....

On the drive home, the kids called out every time they saw a dove. I lost track of the number but it was funny.

We had fun though. There is something about sitting in the field listening to all the sounds around you (probably all the doves warning each other) and just taking it in. Usually we are busy hiking or exploring when we go outside. It was nice to just take sit back and enjoy.

Truth is, I dont even know I could cook or eat dove. I just like being with my family and I can't wait to see Carter take his first animal. :)

My "students" this year....

So I never got around to doing first day of school pictures.

How about....the first 4th Monday of school pictures. :)

We have so many wonderful things in store for this year. We are starting our 4th week today. Things are actually running pretty smoothly so far. Which is awesome! I have a few more things I need to order but I am hoping by next week we will officially be up to our knees in school. :)

Homeschool Mother's Journal ~ Week One

In my life this week...
It was a busy week. School is in full swing. I have been working on our school "routine". We do not follow a rigid schedule but if I do not try to stick to a routine then I will never get everything done. Its more my nature to just roll with the punches and enjoy the day as it comes but the older I get the more I realize the importance of routine. Funny, I am the only one like this. All my kids (especially Alyssa) and husband would love a minute to minute schedule.

In our homeschool this week...
We are finishing our 8th chapter of Weaver. We are carrying over where we left last year. I can not express enough how much I love Weaver! It is such a perfect fit for our family.

It was a good week, with the exception of this day but that turned out fine in the end. :)

We started reading A Cry From Egypt by Hope Auer. I got this book to review as part of the TOS Crew. Wow! That is all I have to say but be looking out for my review soon. We couldn't put it down and ended up reading it in 2 days! Next week we are going on a bit of a rabbit trail about the plagues of Egypt.

Places we are going and people we are seeing...
We are headed to the library this weekend. I also have been spending some AWESOME time with my little sister and stepmom! My little sister is getting married and there is lots of planning and all that fun girly stuff!

My favorite thing this week was...
Being able to teach my kids. It seems so trivial and probably silly to some people but I love it. I love the memories we make, the love that is shared and being there to see all their accomplishments. I'm selfish like that. ;)

What's working/not working for us...
Everything is working so far...YAY! School has been running very smooth this year. We are only finishing up our second week so I know the bumps will come but that's ok. That's just part of the adventure!

Questions/Thoughts I have...
I have looked around for some advice on how to get it all done. Having a daughter with special needs gets complicated sometimes. Between meds, therapy and appointments sometimes I feel like I could scream. I think I finally have a plan though to help the day run better. We'll see.

Things I'm working on...
I am planning a bridal shower! I am having so much fun with all the little details. I can't wait to start buying things and putting it all together.

I'm reading...
Absolutely nothing, other than reading my bible and read alouds to the kids.  My day is so busy from morning til night. I usually crash in bed at 11 or so and am up by 5. There is no time right now for "extras".

In the kitchen...
We did something a bit different this month. We grocery shopped for ONE MONTH! I got some ideas online about saving money and I kind of ran with it. I am all about saving money. :) I am trying to not leave the house unless its for therapy or a doctors appointment. When we do leave, I try to get all my other errands done that day too. It kind of funny how much extra time I have when I am not running everyday. Who knew!?

I'm grateful for...
Our church. I have never in my life felt so comfortable at church. I truly believe with all of my heart that we are right where God wants us and that is an AWESOME feeling!

A photo...
I am so happy about the amount I have "put up" for winter! I love canning and every year I experiment with adding more. It can be so time consuming and exhausting but I love seeing this....
