5 Fact Friday with a twist

I decided to add a little twist to my 5 Fact Friday. A blog that I follow did a "Fun Fact" post today and I enjoyed reading it so I decided to kind of mix into my post today. Fun, I know. ;)

5 things

.....in my purse
1. Neutrogena hand lotion. I can't live with out it in the winter.
2. Dave Ramsey red wallet. Love! Keeps track of all my expenses and its super cute.
3. Jolly Ranchers. Only watermelon and apple, of course.
4. Skinnygirl energizing lip shine
5. Straws. For Taylor Lou.

.....in my bedroom
1. Victoria Secret lotion. Lots of it. Currently obsessing with anything that contains a hint of coconut.
2. Socks. 2 baskets to be exact that need to be matched. Blah.
3. New Pillow. For Brian. Realized after he left for work I should have bought myself one.
4. Homemade massage oil. Foot rub? Yes, please.
5. On my nightstand....(this has 5 of its own...lol)
     The Shack by William Young
The Excellent Wife by Marsha Peace
So Much More Than Sexy by Mark Atteberry (READ THIS BOOK!)
     The Family by J.R. Miller
The Christian Moms Idea Book by Ellen Banks Elwell

.....I've always wanted to do
1. Visit Maine
2. Move to Montana
3. Have a dozen or so kids
4. Own a horse (or 5)
5. Realistically....own a hobby farm, be simple.

.....I'm currently loving

2. Walks with my husband every night
3. Chocolate chip cookies and reruns of House. Together, of course. Currently on season 7 and cookie #12.
4. Working on being debt free and keeping track of every penny spent. Enthusiasm won't last long. Trust me.
5. Family game night. Especially when it involves the Wii. I always win.

.....quirks I have
1. Standing on the side of my foot when I am nervous, worried or feel insecure.
2. I hate house work. Especially, dishes and laundry.
3. I hate a dirty house. Especially, dirty dishes and laundry. Weird, I know.
4. If we don't do school on Monday, I have the HARDEST time finishing out the week.
5. I have to cuddle with Brian to get a good nights sleep. Even if he makes me mad, I wait till he's asleep to cuddle.

Photo Contest ~ February

This months theme was LOVE. With the idea of what do you love about photography or what makes you tick.

This was a little easier for me than last month.

Creating memories and capturing that beauty is what I love.

I didn't give myself much time this round. It was due today and I stopped at the park for TEN minutes yesterday. (In the middle of running a million errands.) It was freezing cold, snowing and windy.  Carter was such a good sport!

There are at least a dozen things about the picture I don't like and if I had time I would redo it but I don't so.....

No matter what I would change about the picture itself...I love that boy. I love his smile. I love his muddy jeans. His homemade fishing pole. His hat. His kindness. His love. His patience. I just love HIM.

My challenge to myself was not to win or take the very best picture, it was just to challenge myself. To do the photo challenge every single month for one year and step out of my comfort zone. That, I have done! :)

5 Fact Friday ~ February 15

Yay, its Friday! Whew....this week flew by. Truthfully, I woke up today surprised that it was Friday.

1. I am really itching for a new camera. I know I have to be patient but man, I want it now!

2. Taylor is READING! (For those that don't know...the doctors told me to give up on it.) She is so awesome. I am so proud of her. The first words I heard this morning were "I get to read today, I get to read today"....Love it!

3. I love Spring and I can feel it right around the corner. Its kind of teasing me though. I have flowers coming up. My dog got sprayed by a skunk. Ants are in my bathroom. See what I mean...tease.

4. So a few weeks ago I decided to make some changes in my life. Not letting some past things bring me down, kind of thing. Look for beauty and joy in the every day. I am happy to announce I still haven't looked back. Life is so precious. I don't want to spend my life regretting the past, wishing certain things could be different or missing the everyday. Go me!

5. The best quote I've heard all week.....

Make your husband your hero, your home your palace and your children your priority!

Love, love, love it! I have no idea where I heard it or read it so I can not give credit where credit deserves but the woman deserves a pat on the back. :)

Have a great day!

On my agenda today....
Go visit Brian for lunch
School
Find a telescope
Bake cookies
Clean out school closet
Laundry....I've been so diligent this week that I am almost caught up!
Make about 3 zillion phone calls
Clean the van (If you don't hear from me, I probably got lost in there)
Give lots of hugs and kisses
Family Night!

Homeschooling at its best

Carter spent most of the morning (between his school work) making a boat for his army men.

As soon as I announced that he was done for the day...outside he went.

I love when learning goes outside the classroom. The question of the day.....Will it float?

Yay! It floats! It even sailed a bit.
A happy boy. Who wouldn't be when they create and it works!

Love his face!
He was so excited because his men stayed ON the boat as it caught the current.

His beautiful assistant.
You know I had to capture our surroundings. It was such a beautiful day.

5 Fact Friday ~ February 8th

I am trying to be a bit more consistent with blogging. I think the winter blahs have kind of taken over my house and my blogging. You would think having a pretty light schedule (because who likes to go do much with all this snow on the ground!) would free me up to blog more. Weird how things work sometimes.

So 5 Fact Friday is a pretty easy way to ease me back to blogging.

1. Its really sad but along with my blogging taking a back seat so has my picture taking...GASP! Can you believe it I only picked up my camera ONCE this week?! ONCE, people! The other day Brian asked me if there was something wrong with me. When I asked him why he would think such a thing he said he had not seen my with my camera in awhile. Ha!

2. I have a love obsession with horses. I have sat a horse once. Sad, I know. I want to take pictures of them. I want to take pictures of me with them. I want to take pictures of my kids with them. I want to be able to say, "Hey, I'm going to go for a ride on Willow. (Yes, I already have a name picked out) Be back soon". Is that really too much for a girl to ask?

3. Sometimes I feel like my life is spinning out of control. Its true. Those around me think I have it all together but I don't. There I said it.

4. I read a quote the other day that said.....Behind every great child is a mother who feels like she is screwing everything up. Makes me feel a little better about #3. ;)

5. I have made a huge decision. I will not ever, under any circumstances do my own hair! I must finally admit to myself and the world that I am no hair dresser or my mother. My mom can dye or her, highlight her hair and cut her own hair and she is stunning. Me, well lets just say I get bright ideas and end up looking like a multi-colored, uneven weirdo.

A Challenge ~ January

One goal that I have for the New Year is to pick up my camera more and shoot in MANUAL! I get lazy and just end up shooting in automatic. What fun is that!?

So in my attempts to practice, practice, practice in manual, I decided to challenge myself. Step out of comfort zone. Jessica over at Jessica Drossin Textures is hosting a photo challenge each month for the whole year. These are not your ordinary challenges either. These challenges get your creative juices flowing.

For January, the challenge was A Photo Inspired By A Song....

I was so close to giving up. I just could not think of anything. We had a busy month and blah, blah, blah but I didn't! I told myself "I don't care if you end up taking a picture of the dog and labeling it, Who Let the Dogs Out, you are doing this challenge"!

Now anyone can join the photo challenge but it you want to be entered into the contest (with some sweet prizes) then you have to use one of Jessica's textures. I have never added texture to photos. (Another challenge! Yay me!) I sat at the computer with my picture up in Photoshop and another screen with You Tube. I literally followed it step by step. It was actually fun! Really easy to learn and addicting!

In My Daughters Eyes by Martina McBride

I LOVE the way the picture turned out and I am so excited to have learned how to add texture. So glad I didn't just give up.
