Simple Womans DayBook 1.25.16

For Today ~ Monday January 25th, 2016 @ 8pm

Outside my window... The sky is beautiful. I caught a glimpse as I was making dinner. It was filled with color and clouds.

I am thinking... My house is a mess and truthfully I should be cleaning instead of blogging. We started back to school today after a few weeks of sickness. It feels like we are not getting anywhere. Between December off for the holidays and the bug that knocked us all on our butts for weeks, things have gotten a little crazy around here. Today was a good day though. Despite the mess.

I am thankful... for a patient and kind husband. He had to take a few sick days from work. As soon as he started to feel better he was helping me with the house, school and getting a start on our garden plans. He never even act like he notices the mess. As long as he has clothes in his drawers. Which I make a huge priority.

I am wearing... comfy pants and a tshirt. It's my signature style lately.

I am creating... my new project life album for 2016. Project Life makes me weak in the knees. Love, love, love it.

I am going... to bed soon. I am going on 3 1/2 hours sleep. For some reason I could not sleep last night and when I did I woke up in a panic from terrible dreams. It was a weird and very long night.

I am wondering... if our new school "rhythm" is going to help things flow better. I am not a schedule kind of person. I like adventure. I like spur of the moment but sometimes that doesn't get it all done. So......I settled for a rhythm to our day.

I am reading... Facebook. Just keeping it real.

I am hoping... we do NOT get sick again this year!

I am learning... how to use Homeschool Tracker. I really like to do everything myself. It is just who I am. I don't need help. I don't need shortcuts. BUT........I really need to be more organized in our homeschool so along with a rhythm, I am trying out Homeschool Tracker to keep me focused.

In my garden...

There is a STUD in my garden!
In my kitchen... at this very moment there is a sweet daughter doing her dinner dishes. Other than that there has not been much happening in the kitchen lately. Except for the every day. Including homemade pizza night. We never miss that!

In the homeschool room...Yep. This.

A peek into one of my days... Soap making! I cheat though. I don't make it from scratch right now. It is definitely something I want to learn in the very near future!

Random 5 on Friday ~ 1.22.16

Good morning! It is late morning here. Almost 9 and the whole house is still sleeping. This doesn't happen often but I think everyone still needs the extra rest from the sickness that has had us miserable for the last few weeks. I woke up to Brian still in bed. He doesn't miss work often so that must mean he is feeling pretty miserable. He feel asleep around 6 last night after eating a few bowls of chicken noodle soup. Is it spring yet? I am ready. It feels like we have been sick all winter long.

Anyways, on to other things......Are you ready for some "Randomness"? Here we go....

1. We found the absolute perfect puppy for Taylor. You know, the lap dog we have been talking about. The price was perfect. The temperament of the dog was perfect. It was only a little over an hour away. It was so darn cute. It was perfect. But....it feel through. Taylor was heart broken but it was a good lesson for her. At least that is what I keep telling myself. The Mommy in me wanted to make it work for her. Make it happen. I guess it was a lesson for me too. So we keep looking.

2. I am in the love with the Sonic energy drinks. Have you tried them? They aren't your typical energy drinks. They do not give you highs and lows. They are not filled with caffeine.  They are refreshing! I try not to drink them a lot but they are great before a workout or if I am feeling extra sluggish that day.

3. School. I feel like I have been distracted. I spent hours yesterday pouring over our "routine" and schoolwork. Something just isn't flowing. It could just be that I feel like we aren't getting anywhere because for weeks we have been watching educational movies and eating soup but who knows. I think I have it all figured out. Time will tell.

4. They now sell socks that don't match. Whole packs that are all different colors and prints! Where were these when I had 4 little ones? Who ever came up with that is an absolute genius in my book.

5. Brian said he was craving vegetable soup the other day. He then ventured into the kitchen to make a pot! I have to say I was pretty impressed. He only asked a little bit of input from me. If I liked vegetables I would probably say it was amazing. ;)

It Is Unanimous

Brian has wanted to raise rabbits and I have always been against it. It just seems so....weird. Him and Carter have gone rabbit hunting a time or two and they have eaten it but us girls decided to pass.

Last summer, I finally caved and we raised rabbits. We picked them out. Bred them. Had a lot of wittle babies. I even butchered some. On my own. By MYSELF. I even got pretty good at it.

Did we eat them? Nope. Bobo enjoyed a rabbit or two but I just couldn't do it. I don't know why. We hunt deer and I do just fine. We butcher it ourselves and venison steak is one of my favorite meals! So honestly I don't get why the rabbit thing gets me. It is not because they are cute. Although they are. It is just 100% mental. So bye bye rabbits. We got rid of them all.

Then Carter got a rabbit. He was very proud of it and I knew that I had to cook it. So today was the day.

We cooked it. We ate it. We liked it!

Yes. We liked it. Actually it was pretty darn good if-I-do-say-so-myself!

I deboned and cleaned it days ago. It has been soaking in salt water until today.

I cut it into "nuggets" and Brian did an extra good cleaning. He is weird like that. It was the cleanest rabbit in town I can promise you that.

It was only one rabbit so it was enough for us all to try it and that's about it. I made 2 batches. One I dipped in milk and covered in a mixture of flour, parsley, salt, pepper and garlic. That batch we deep fried. The second batch I just sauteed in butter and then coated some with hot sauce and some with BBQ sauce.

No makeup. Don't judge. Its the hilljack, I am eating rabbit look.

Looks good, right!? I was actually surprised how much it tasted like chicken! You hear that all the time but it is true. Every one of us liked the breaded rabbit the best. It was super good dipped in hot sauce and ranch. :)

I actually would like to venture into raising them again. As weird as it sounds it is also pretty "farmerish" and I like that too.

Isn't he so handsome? I love my OCD rabbit cleaner.

Random 5 on Friday ~ January 15th

Hi-Ya! How are you today? It is early and cold here. Hunter (my adorable-doesn't-need-any-sleep nephew) stays with us every other Thursday. He has been up since 3:15. I am waiting for him to go back to sleep so I figured it was a great time to sneak in my Random 5 post for this week.

1. If you haven't guessed....I love having babies around. Little ones. Lots of them. Fingers crossed (or should I just be real and say if my prayers are answered) maybe God will bless us with a few more of our own! Until then...well, even if it does happen....I love being an auntie! Pretty soon my other nephew will be back in Ohio and I will have even more babies to love on! I have a lot of love to give. I may or may not pat them on the head and call them George.

2. Mice. I am not okay with mice. I don't care how far out in the country I am....mice are a no no! We have 4 barn cats for the this very reason. At the moment I believe there are 8 traps set in my tiny house because a mouse had been seen. If we don't get it soon, I'm moving.

3. I hate coffee. Isn't that a sin or something? I wish I liked it. It seems so...mature. Everyone raves about their coffee addiction and I'm over here like "Give me hot chocolate, please"! Chocolate milk? "Sure. Fill me up". That just doesn't feel very adultish now does it?

4. If I could get my kids healthy long enough we are way over due for family pictures.

5. I think I am going to need some rabbit recipes!!

I'd love to read about your randomness! Link up below. :)

Mid Week Musings

I missed Random Friday last week. It is been a little insane around here. Right now, I have a house full of sick people. Brian took a vacation day yesterday for us to get some things done but it ended up being a recoup day. Along with today. I love him being home but it sure would be nice to have everyone up and running. Isn't it funny? Some days I wish they would SLOW down. Calm down. Relax. But then they get sick and well...I can't wait for everyone to feel better.

Morgan is at the very tail end of this bug. We got slammed with snow yesterday and the poor thing had to play in the snow all by herself. At least she had Bobo. He loves the snow too. If there is snow on the ground when we let him out he will roll and cover himself with as much snow as possible. Then he shakes but most of it comes into the house with him. It is fun.

Speaking of dogs....we are looking to get 2 puppies. Yes, you read that correctly. TWO!!! I mentioned the other day about getting Taylor a lap dog this time around. Well I also want a German Shepherd. For a pet and protection. We discussed getting them at the same time. That way we deal with the puppy stage at the same time! It might not happen though. Do we REALLY want 2 more dogs? Do we really want to deal with the puppy stage again at all?

Brian and I have been talking a lot about our goals. This time last year I really thought we would be in our own home. I feel discouraged about it. Some personal things happened that got us behind and the dream of buying slipped a few (or million...it seems) steps back. Why does it feel like one step forward and two steps back all.the.time? Life, I guess. I keep reminding myself that God makes things happen in His timing but even that is discouraging because although He does do that, we need to be doing our part. I think I had a time period of discouragement that made me give up on my part. I'm working on it.

But anyway, we sat down and re-evaluated our goals. After dinner tonight we are going to write them down and start checking them off as we go! Now to get everyone healthy! Its chicken noodle soup and chicken and dumplings for dinner tonight. What is cooking at your house?

Simply Women's DayBook ~ 1.6.16

January 6th, 2016 @ 9pm

Outside my window...
Brr...It is dark. Cold. I can already see frost on the van. I shouldn't complain. The weather here in Ohio has been unbelievably beautiful. Warm and sunny. Up until about a week ago. Then the cold hit us hard. The mornings are beautiful though. Frost covers everything.

I am thinking...
I should go to bed. My to-do list is a mile long but my energy level is not keeping up today. I SHOULD go to bed and start over tomorrow. Instead I blog.

I am thankful...
Today I am thankful for a lot of things but the first thing that comes to mind is Mother Teresa. That might seem like a weird thing to be thankful for but the kids and I are reading her story and it is truly amazing. When she would ask her mom who the people were around their table at dinnertime she would say "these are our people". These are our people....I love it.
I am wearing...
Black workout pants and a House of Heroes t-shirt. I bought this t-shirt at the Goodwill and I had no idea what it meant. Turns out the be a Christian band that I had never heard of but they are pretty good!

I am creating...
A household binder. My daughter that is standingovermyshoulddrivingmecrazy err...hanging out with her cool mom said "an atmosphere". I guess I now feel bad for saying she is driving me crazy. Wait...I didn't say that out loud! Did I?

I am going...
No where! I am forcing myself to stay home as much as possible.

I am wondering...
If that will actually be possible. ;)

I am hoping...
That the changes we made this week in school change things for the better!

I am learning...
Everyday. No really. I learn right along with the kids. I love it.

In my kitchen...
I need to make granola and energy bites to snack on! Must add to my to-do list...lol!

First Day ~ January 2016

From beginning to end....a glimpse into our first day of January 2016.
Snapshots to record who we are and what we did each month.

I love "First Day" posts. They are fun to do and fun to look back on! I did however realize that I didn't take any pictures of my girls! I'll have to make up for that next month. I promise they are still a part of my life. Hehe...

Random 5 on Friday ~ A Come Back! January 1st 2016

HELLO! I am excited to start back to blogging. I didn't really mean to take a break. It just kind of happened.

Today worked out perfect to get things going. It is the beginning of a new year. Today is Friday. It just worked. Lets catch up! I would love to hear from you.

Here are my Random things for this week.

1. Our mini farm isn't much of a farm anymore. Because of some personal reasons we decided to do away with all of our animals except for Bobo, Taylors service dog, and a few random barn cats. He is actually going to be retiring soon and we are thinking about getting her a lap dog this time. More of a companion dog. We are still looking into some options.

2. I can only eat fast food at Wendy's and Taco Bell. Is that weird?

3. Ohio weather has been so weird this year! It has been warm up until about 2 days ago. Now my body is freezing all the time! It went from warm to chilltomybones. I don't like it! Usually cold doesn't bother me. Maybe if we had some sunshine!

4. I am no longer doing reviews so my blog is going to be exactly what I intended when I started it....all about my family! What we do. Whats happening. Record our memories. Our life. You know fun stuff like that.

5. Tonight Brian and I are making wings! We used to have our wing night every weekend but it has been awhile so we decided tonight was a good night. So with that...I am off! :)
